Design Options

The Design Options stage of the Design & Development phase allows the designer to formly present their refined ideas to the client and / or potential users. This typically involves the designer staging a formal meeting(s) with the client or user group to present a series of concept drawing, presentation drawings or models.

During the meeting, the designer presents and pitches design concepts to the client / user(s) while continually referring back to the original design specifications in the design brief. After the pitch, the design gives the client / user(s) time to look over and give feedback on the design concepts and options. It is this critical feedback that the designer takes notes on in case the design requires further development. If so, the designer would return to the earlier stages within the Design & Development phase or conduct further research to address the issues raised.

Concept Drawings

Concept drawings are refined concept sketches that visually communicate a clear message or design intent. Concept drawings are typically presented in variety of styles including line drawings, value study, colour study, an artist's impression, CAD model, illustrative exploded diagram or general rendering. They also include annotations to highligh and explain design features and how these relate to the design brief or client.

Mock-ups & Models

Mock-ups and models are used by designers to assist in understanding and communicating the form and features of both visual and product designs. Models provide designers, clients and potenial users with a three-dimensional representation of a design concept, allowing them to touch, use or see the design from a human perspective. This is something that a drawing cannot achieve.
